The first game of 2023 didn’t disappoint.
I think secretly we all wanted a new ‘leader’ to head the results table going into this season, and who would have predicted who that would be?
Aboy came out of the blocks nice and steady and had a really steady game all the way through, the absolute model of consistency. Predictable play? Maybe a little, but also no sudden crazy moves, finishing just ahead of Mita (not a bad effort considering he didn’t actually make it to the table).
Mita herself had an up and down game, quite dominant early on and chip lead for a while but then something went south and as the blinds increased and her chip count didn’t she left it a little late for a bounce back.
David had a good game with some big wins and a healthy chip lead for a while, but then after winning a big battle against David which also took him out of the game, Saurabh roared into the lead and never looked back.
A three way finish between Cameron, as solid as ever, Alan & Saurabh ended with Saurabh maintaining a strong lead throughout the rest of the game and finally wiping Cam & Alan out with some good (‘does he or doesn’t he have the Ace’) play.
